Night shift strike at car works

OXFORD, APRIL 1
About 2,000 night shift workers went on unofficial strike and halted production at the Pressed Steel Company's car body factory at Cowley tonight.
They are dissatisfied with the way in which the new 42-hour week is operating at the factory. The men do not wish to work throughout the night on a Friday.
Night shifts at the Coventry factories of Alvis, Bristol-Siddeley, and Standard- Triumph also stayed away last night. Union officials are to address a meeting of night shift workers from Standards today.
