When is a car first registered in March 1979 going to be tax exempt?

I'm thinking of buying a car that was first registered in March 1979. When will it become a historic vehicle and tax exempt?

The date for historic vehicle exemption is determined by the build date, rather than the registration so double check when that car was built. If it was built before 1 January 1979 it will be exempt from VED on April 1 2019.
