And finally – we couldn’t list our top 10 cars without mention of the model that upstaged all the others at Gaydon. What was once a big date in the Mini calendar seems to have been taken over somewhat by the models from the Austin-Rover era, and the 800-Series was more prevalent than any other BL-ARG model; a real indicator that the big Rover’s time has finally come. Our favourite, from a fine line-up, was Alex Sebbinger’s 825 Sterling, chassis number 672, which was registered just four days after the 800 went on sale in 1986. Apart from the British Motor Museum’s own 800 – number one off the line – it’s the oldest known survivor.
