- The first 2500 cars can suffer from turbocharger unreliabiltty - check for white smoke at start up.
- The engine block is sound although be wary if the car has been chip tuned beyond the original power output without any other modifications.
- Drivetrain is tough, with clutches are good for around 300bhp, while the MT75 gearbox can handle 375bhp without too much difficulty.
- The RS Cosworth might look like a standard Escort, but its bespoke body doesn't repair easily - so make sure you buy a car that's not been crashed. Or at least been repaired properly.
