Hi Everyone

I would like to post my issue here and I am not sure if this is the right place for it as this is my first time I post threads on this forum and hopefully I get some help from you members.

My issue is that I have just rebuilt a 2004 Toyota Voxy engine (Engine Code: 1AZ-FSE) 2.0L Petrol Automatic and am having the following problems with the car when I start it:

1/ Car rev too high (2000RPM) on start up
2/ Car starts blowing lots of white/grey smoke on cold start and clears away after running for 2-3 minutes and also when I put My hand in the smoke it feels a little bit greasy.
3/ Car also has got some misfire that can be felt when listening to the exhaust pipe blowing intermittently.
4/ The engine gets really hot real quick and the fan keeps coming on very frequently but I think this might be due to some air blockage in the cooling system or some leak in the radiator.
5/ The oil dipstick kind of smells of petrol.
6/ No fault codes given when scanned with my Autel MaxiSys Pro MS908P.

So my questions to the experts here are:

Do you think this is an injector leak issue? or a Vacuum leak because I suspect some bad intake manifold gaskets?
The engine sound is smooth and all the valve stem seals, piston rings, con rod bearings, head gasket and timing chain replaced and the crack shaft was regrinded by professionals in the rebuild process . And also the engine was thoroughly cleaned before assembling it.

Your quick replies will be highly appreciated as I am really not sure where to start with fixing this engine.

Thanks. Read more

Did you manage to get any answers elsewhere?

Thinking of getting the same car, maybe a 2007, but older shape or try to get the 2007 shape. Is it worth it, reliability wise?

Hi all my name is jason I have recently become a proud owner of an 04 plate focus st .
Mint condition for its age , but here is my problem lol
Or paranoia.
It cost me £600 it runs like a dream and is rapid but there is my problem,
Why so cheap , ihavnt had it checked out yet only breezed over by a mechanic as I had to have new bulbs and the back wiper didn't work lol .
I have never had a car with so much power but I just want to make sure it doesn't have me off the road. When I flow it it wants to pull me from side to side and also the swearing it a little tight but I'm only used to old crap focuses that drive like a bout .
Should I be worried and should I get the car checked over
I don't have a lot of spare cash and really want to keep it for ages .
If anyone can advise many thanks

You talking about when you accelerate hard from very low speed or a standstill? If so then it's likely dumping 170bhp through the front wheels is just causing a spot of torque steer but if you're talking about it veering when you accelerate or slow down when travelling at say 30mph for example then it could be worn trackrod ends.

The MK I Focus was the best small family hatch of its era by a long way and good survivors will be worth money one day but it's currently going through bangerdom where it's next to worthless except for the RS.

If it's genuinely nice then keep it that way and you should sell for no loss or even a profit after running it a year or two. A tatty one will never become valuable so if there's a lot of rot then just enjoy it while it lasts.

The ST170 wasn't the best example and wasn't that well received due to its surprisingly small performance gain over the normal 2.0 Zetec. In fact the 1.8 TDCi was quicker point to point due to its vastly higher torque. So don't expect it to rocket in value any time soon like some fast Fords. It was actually a bit of a weak link in the range.

Audi B3 and the 90's B4 platforms are indeed a solid starter classic, zinc coated body keeps rust at bay and VAG running gear that's tough, cheap and in plentiful supply, they were built to last. I bought an 8v coupe bodied version that has those classic lines and still gets plenty of comments, intend to keep it for many years.

Very nice car. It's funny how the Japanese cars rarely looks exciting, when new, but with the age, they become beautiful icons of a time. And they grow old very well, good materials, plus they are always nice pieces of engineering. Read more

There is a dedicated following for this car as am one of many like minded enthusiasts who love the first "Baby Jag". On my third and planning a 4th in a few years when my present modified estate is passed to my wife. You only have to search on Facebook to see how many enthusiast groups there are for this little gem.
