  • Searching For a Star Car 15 Feb 2008 (News)
There is a genuine and growing interest in the defining cars from those decades such as the Mini, Ford Cortina, Rover SDI and Vauxhall Viva that were the family cars of their day." " Classics from BCA isn't just about the sales that we have across the year. We have also created a dedicated website to provide a meeting place for collectors and enthusiasts to share knowledge and information on their vehicles, as more and more people choose to buy iconic vehicles as a lifestyle statement."
  • Alpine triumphs at Concours de l’Ordinaire 14 Aug 2018 (News)
The first of these saw the welcome return of each of the previous FOTU Best of Show winners, an uncommon Alfasud-powered 1985 Nissan Cherry Europe that won in 2014, the 2015 winning 1978 Ford Escort 1600L four-door Mk2, a 1980 Morris 575 ‘Marina’ pick-up from 2017, and the 1983 Datsun Sunny 1.5GL that took the award last year. These past victors were joined by the previous runner-up cars, plus past People’s Choice winners, including a 1971 Ford Cortina Mk3, a pair of Hillman estates (1974 Avenger and 1968 Minx) and the world’s oldest Austin Allegro, a pre-production December 1972 1750 SS.
  • Nine decades of motorsport to be celebrated at Donington 6 Feb 2018 (News)
There are always plenty of Ford Lotus Cortinas in the U2TC for pre-66 under two-litre Touring Cars but they face stiff opposition from such models as BMW 1800 TISA and Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA. Equally hard-fought is the Historic Touring Car Challenge with Tony Dron Trophy, which brings together a fantastic array of pre-1991 British and European Touring Cars - the type of beefy machines that most of us could only dream of driving back in period.

But they will have to beat a number of local racers all eager to shine in front of their home crowd – among them 18-year-old James Buckton from Harrogate in his historic Elden Formula Ford, York’s Robert Rook and Selby’s Jim Clark in their Ford Lotus Cortinas, fellow saloon car racer Andy Yool from Barrow-in-Furness in his Ford Anglia, Workington’s Robert Gates in his evocative E-type Jaguar and Whitley Bay’s Richard Evans in his sensational March Formula 2 car.

    One to Watch: Mercedes-Benz S-class (W108) 22 Jan 2019 (News)
Naturally such quality didn’t come cheap and at around £5500 new, the Merc was six times the price of a Ford Cortina and £2000 more than a Jaguar E-Type V12. Today though, you can still pick up a good 3.5 Saloon for about £15k which is crazy when you consider that the mechanically identical Coupe version is now routinely fetching £80k+ at auction and the Cabriolet version is fetching £250k+.
  • Preview: Barons classic car auction, Sandown Park, 16 December 4 Dec 2013 (News)
Barons’ Yuletide Classic has plenty of cars for buyers who want something they can immediately display with pride. The 1964 Ford Lotus Cortina has been in the vendor’s ownership for some 30 years, and originally arrived in a number of boxes. Over the decades the owner has had the car restored from the ground up but has used it very little since the project was complete.

Expensive Cars Cheaper at Auction Today 6 Dec 2004 (News)
If had had the womba or the space I’d have been wallowing in it. BCA’s star car, a beautifully restored 1988F Cortina 1600E in a shade of red no 1600E was ever originally painted sold for the estimated £8,800. Another 60’s car, this time a 7,000 mile 1969H Mini Cooper 1275S, originally owned by an associate of a famous East End ‘firm’ bit to a less than estimated £10,300.
