Overall reliability

Absolutely great little car for me.

I bought this car new in November 1981 (your 'from a dealer 'in' 'didn't go back that far) and it has only let me down once (the radiator hose broke). It has never failed its MOT, and has only had one new clutch in 29 years of driving. I love the space in the hatchback as I often carry foxes and other wildlife around in cages and they always fit in, plus other luggage, with room to spare. The dealer who sold it to me said 'It's a reliable little workhorse' and indeed I have found it so. As it is so easy to maintain my partner is able to service it each year himself, so saving me loads of money. It still does well on petrol, though not so good on short runs obviously. It's no rust bucket either, though there are a few small spots on the spoiler and sills, which my partner tries to keep in check. It's ideal for me, and I dread the day when I have to get rid of it as it's seats are so much comfier than the modern ones. Also, I like being in control, and don't like all this electric/computerised gadgetry.
