Preview: Retro Classics Stuttgart
If you’ve been thinking about heading over to a European classic car show, then this year’s Retro Classics in Stuttgart is well worth checking out. In fact, it might be the best classic car show you’ve never heard of.
Held on 2-5 March, it is one of the easiest to access shows on the calendar. The halls are less than five minutes’ walk away from the airport, making it easy to fly in and out on the same day. This ease of access makes it a genuine rival to the more established Techno Classica show at Essen.
Last year, 90,000 visitors made the trip to Stuttgart for the event. That’s about half the number through the doors at Essen, but the show strikes a good balance between feeling busy and being easy to get around and see the cars.
And there are plenty to see. Don’t be fooled by Stuttgarts low key nature - there are 3500 cars on show across the show’s massive (but easily accessible) 130,000 sq metres (more than Essen).
This Renault 5 GT Turbo was one of the classics for sale at last year's show.
Headline events for Retro Classics 2016 include a host of stunning Italian classics on show from two well-known museums. The achievements of German racing driver Roland Asch will also be celebrated at this year’s show with seven cars raced by him on display
