A Grand Monday: Mk2 Volkswagen Golf GTI
The Mk2 Volkswagen Golf GTI is one of the best everyday classics money can buy – but over the past few years their values have steadily been on the up.
So we were astonished to find this small bumper Atlas Grey three-door 1985 Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk2 8v for sale – for just £900. And best of all, it’s relatively unmolested and standard.
It’s covered 142,000 miles, has an MoT until 15 June, 2015, and comes with a history folder chock full of receipts and previous MoTs.
Inside, the rainbow trim is in good order with black carpet, a good rear parcel shelf (i.e. one not butchered to take bigger speakers) and new trimmed headlining. Even the multi-function trip computer (MAF) works.
Outside, it’s showing some signs of wear and tear with rust in some of the usual Golf places. There’s lacquer peel on the passenger rear quarter and a small crack in the dash.
Of course, it’s not 100% standard and wears a set of Audi 80 sport alloys. The other modifications are bonnet pins and 40mm lowering springs.
It’s been well looked after though, with new front and rear Mintex discs and pads, a new rear bias valve and new master cylinder. It’s also had new rear callipers, handbrake cables and revised heater matrix.
