Preview: Barons classic car auction, Esher, 25 February
Barons kicks off its 2014 account with its 'Winter Warmer' auction on 25 February in Esher. The collectors’ and sports car sale stars classic ready to go, restoration projects, and a rather interesting Austin Healey recreation.
Heading the early entries is a very nice Jaguar E-type Series 2 roadster, which has been treated to a ground-up restoration, which Barons says has not left a single original part untouched. It has lived in the same Hampshire town for 43 of its 44 years, and has covered less than 2000 miles since undergoing restoration in 2004, and comes with a Bermuda hardtop. And it could be yours for an estimated £63,000-73,000.
Restorations are always popular, and Barons has a few of those to choose from. A 1953 Bentley R-Type, which runs and drives, looks to be mid-restoration, having already received engine work, new brakes, clutch, exhaust and tyres. Barons has it pegged at £10,000-12,000, which potentially looks good value for someone who wants to finish this one themselves. A 1962 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II, which outwardly looks lovely, having spent much of its life in California, is described as 'all-original and now requires some TLC'. Yours for £10,000-15,000.
The Sebring MXR 5.2 ‘Big Healey’ is nothing if not fascinating. It's powered by a Chevrolet 5.7-litre V8 fuel injected engine, and drives through a six-speed manual transmission. It looks the part, with a fully-dressed engine bay and a nicely detailed interior. Estimate is £20,000-25,000, and maybe it's one for thrill-seekers.
