Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and Silver Spur (1980 - 1995)
Silver Spirit
Spectacular and unparalleled ride and driving experience!
You really have to drive one to get the full experience, it's like no other.
Super quiet and comfortable, yes it will roll a little if driven relatively hard, but that's not how they are meant to be driven, if you want to drive like that it's really not for you...
These are "wafters" not for tearing about like a maniac. So don't expect it to be and Audi!
It does have plenty of power, more that enough and the economy is not bad. My car has fuel injection and manages 17.5 mpg on a run. (That's doing it properly, brim to brim!)
Some parts, especially Rolls made items can be very expensive, but often available second hand. At the same time, things like fuel injection parts can be cross-referenced and obtained more cheaply for the exact same thing.
Do be careful when buying, rust and neglect are MAJOR issues, better to spend more on a good one in the first place. Join the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club (RREC) and attend some of the wonderful weekend seminars finding out about how your car works and meeting like minded people.
Although my car is a 1987 and has ABS, cruise control and electric memory seats, the sumptuous leather interior is very 60s, e.g. I don't think ergonomics had been invented when the dashboard was being designed. But that's okay, lovely in fact.
Looking down the long bonnet at the Spirit of Ecstasy leading the way is what it's all about...
Marvellous, simply marvellous!
