Excellent but thirsty
I bought my 1981 280SE in 1992 (date search above stops in 2002) from a private seller, I drove it in London for 10 years and then shipped it out to East Africa, it is still running amazingly smoothly but really guzzles petrol I get about 15MPG on a good day.
I can not fault the build quality or reliability, the only problem I have is that parts are now in short supply and have become very expensive, I needed a new headliner and Mercedes dont do them anymore so had one custom made and that cost me £600, recently replaced the exhaust with non Mercedes version and that cost £600. The engine and gearbox have never gone wrong as I service the car religiously.
My car is now 31 years old and I love it.
