Brilliant car

I owned one of these focuses for several years before replacing it with a mk3 focus. It was a brilliant car- reliable (despite being an older vehicle) and great to drive. The 1.6 Zetec SE petrol engine was good, reasonably nippy while being very simple to work on and fuel efficient. On a long drive to the West Country on a mix of roads it would do a calculated 46mpg. Despite having only five gears, the engine was also smooth and quite quiet at motorway speeds. . My car had no rust at all (even when it was 15 years old) but rust on the rear wheel arches and door bottoms appears to be common. Water leaks into the front footwells are a common fault, often caused by the pollen filter being sealed incorrectly. At some point in 2003 ford added more safety equipment as standard- with ABS and side airbags. Prior to this these were not standard fit on most models.
