Character you come to love

Actually I bought this car in May 1998 - which the website will not allow me to say!

I drove my ZX for 14 years and almost 200,000 miles, until the car was written off by being rear-ended by a truck. Whilst often thought of as a dull Citroen, I found it had immense character. Excellent handling and comfort combined with rugged dependability and numerous minor quirks. Locks failed, electrics failed, plastic fell off - yet somehow it never let me down.

Performance was adequate - comparable to the current 1.25 Fiesta. Fuel consumption was less aggreable - around 35MPG on the whole - but the sweet quality of the ride and steering proved a source of constant delight. I absolutely loved my ZX - a car you palpably drove, feeling the road, rather than sitting in an airtight electronic box.

It was a good car to drive. You can't say better than that :)
