Published 15 January 2016

The Peugeot 205 GTi has been named as the best hot hatch at the Autosport Show, which opened yesterday, Thursday, 14 January.

The announcement was made by three-time British Touring Car Champion Matt Neal as he revealed the winner of a global poll.

It beat nine cars to the title and is part of a display called ‘Evolution of the Hot Hatch’, which features a stunning collection of iconic cars that have defined the genre. Runner up was the Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo 1. Third place went to the Ford RS Cosworth.

Other cars on the shortlist included the Mk1 Volkswagen Golf GTI, Renault Clio Williams and 182 Trophy, Mk2 Golf GTI, Renault 5 GT Turbo, Mk1 Ford Focus RS and Talbot Lotus Sunbeam.

10. Talbot Lotus Sunbeam

The list was put together by a panel of experts (Autocar’s editor-in-chief, Steve Cropley and road test editor, Matt Prior, PistonHeads.com editor, Dan Trent as well as Autocar contributing editor and overall curator, Richard Bremner), before being put out to a public vote.
