Stunning Mk1 Mondeo for sale at £1500

When was the last time you saw one of these? We spotted this rare Mk 1 Ford Mondeo at dealer KGF Classic Cars.

It’s a 1996 2.0 GLX with full history and 46,820 miles and is up for £1495. That might sound a lot, but there are very few Mk 1s left… especially in this condition.

Launched in Europe in 1992, the first generation Mondeo replaced the Sierra. Like it’s predecessor, it dominated the company car market. But despite being a hugely capable classic, it has failed to make the jump to classic status.

With early models now 23 years old, we think it’s high time people started appreciating this car for what it was – a well specified, hugely capable family car.

This 2.0i 16v GLX example has been well looked after and has just 46,820 miles on the clock.

Finished in factory original Stardust Silver the paintwork looks good and – amazingly - all factory panels are free from corrosion. It’s even still got the Ford dealer plates and rear screen sticker fitted.

Inside, the original Papillon Opal upholstery is spotless with no wear. The cut pile carpets are unmarked, having been protected by floor mats from new and the headlining is said to be ‘perfect’.

According to the seller, ‘The driver inclined fascia and incorporated switchgear is as new and all functions operate seamlessly including the original Keycode RDS stereo cassette (model 2006).

‘Even sections of the factory protective cellophane wrapping to the inner door steps remain intact! An enormously comfortable interior and even inch representative of a 1990’s showroom example, truly exceptional.’

Sounds good, doesn’t it? Under the bonnet, the car is fitted with a 2.0i DOHC 16v four-cylinder engine. With 136bhp and 180Nm of torque, it’s still capable of keeping up with modern traffic – 0-62mph takes 9.2 seconds.

Look inside the spotless engine bay and you’ll see the Ford battery, stickers, tags and plates – it looks like it’s only just left the showroom.

According to the history file, the car was registered new on 11th April 1996 by Ford Main Dealer Chiltern Garage of Sudbury.

The Ford plastic wallet contains the original stamped service book along with every handbook, radio guide and dealership literature from point of sale.

The fully-stamped service record displays fourteen entries from the supplying dealer up to 2005 and the same independent specialist thereafter with the most recent entry at 46,653 miles in February 2015. This service included a cambelt change and is MoT’d until November 2015.

It comes with three keys, including the original red master key and plastic keycode tags as well as a dealership sales brochure complete the package.

I have a '95 2.5i with the RS body kit. 110k with full service history. It's been sat in the garage for 3 years and I'm not sure what to do with it. In a way it's been my favourite car in life and I've had a few. Lovely drive. Great performance. And it's no slouch by today's standards. They were always a little bit ahead of everything that was available at the time. The thing is these older cars are now starting to prove popular with the younger generation. I can't believe mine is 21 years old !!!
