A Grand Monday: Mercedes W124
If you’re after a classic to use every day, then look no further that this 1988 Mercedes 230E. It’s a pre-facelift four-speed automatic and, as you can see, is in pretty good condition.
Finding good, unmolested W124 saloons is getting hard these days, and this one – with just 82,000 miles on the clock – looks like a gem for £1250.
It’s clearly been well looked after. It comes with a thick history file, two sets of keys, all of the original Mercedes handbooks and wallet, plus a complete service history – stamps, receipts and old MoT certificates, it’s all here.
According to the seller, all the important jobs have been done. ‘Head gasket, exhaust and brakes.’ It has an MoT until March next year.
‘There are very few left in this condition. No rust. It’s ready for immediate use or with very little work would make a great show car.’
There are few minor points to consider. There are light cracks in the dashboard and some stonechips in the paint. But the worst bit is a non-matching paint repair around the rear aerial mount.
