Rare Intermeccanica in Historics November Auction
This utterly stunning 1973 Intermeccanica Indra is to feature in Historics auction at Mercedes Benz World, Brooklands on 24th November.
One of only 27 ever built, it features a 5,354cc Chevrolet Corvette 350 V8 engine and GM 3-speed torque converter auto. Styled by the legendary Franco Scalione. In 1972, the intriguing story behind it involves a Canadian couple, Frank and Paula Reisner who, on a European tour in 1958, arrived in Turin to find the legendary stylist, Franco Scalione, a resourceful workforce and well equipped workshops which led Frank to found Carrozzeria Intermeccanica Automobili, eventual manufacturers of some of the most beautiful cars in the world. This 1973 car is the last of the 27 fastback 2+2 coupés built with a Corvette power plant and, apart from a repaint from green to red, remains in unrestored and original condition. It was completed on 8th April 1973. The engine remains in standard specification and is in very good order. It is now UK registered and comes with a history file that includes invoices, a copy of Auto Italia featuring the car within and a current MoT test certificate. Also included is a book written by Paula Reisner, titled, ‘Intermeccanica – The Story of the Prancing Bull’. Discovered in a free ad in France that intrigued the current vendor, he went to see the car and bought it from its British owner who was seeking to finance his return to the UK. The Indra has since been made reliable for long distance touring being used on regular trips to the south of France. It is estimated at £78,000 to £88,000.
