Touring car titans set for Silverstone sale
Three modern classic icons are going under the hammer at the Silverstone Classic sale. A 1987 Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, 1990 BMW E30 M3 Sport Evolution, and 1992 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II will be auctioned on 21-22 July.
Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said, ‘These three cars come from a time when touring car racing was at its peak, both in terms of popularity and in the cars produced from the series.
‘These road-going homologation specials are the closest many can get to experiencing the ferocity, power and speed from the heyday of touring car racing, and we’re delighted to be offering all three challengers at our headline sale of the year at Silverstone,’ Whale added.
The 1987 Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth has been in single family ownership and barn stored for most of its life and has 11k on the clock. Paul Linfoot, of the RS500 registrar of the RS500 Owners’ Club, described it as one of the most original RS500s he’d ever seen. This fast Ford carries an estimate of £90,000 to £105,000.
Next up is a 1990 BMW E30 M3 Sport Evolution. Originally sold in Germany, it was imported to the UK in 1999. It is finished in Jet Black Metallic with Black Nappa leather, Recaro sports seats, as well as suede-trimmed steering wheel, handbrake leaver and gear stick. With 127,765km (79,389 miles) under its wheels, it has been treated to a sympathetic re-commissioning including a bare-metal respray. It could fetch between £85,000 and £95,000 at auction.
Also for sale is a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II. First purchased in Switzerland and later acquired by the director of a Mercedes Benz dealerships in Holland, it was a showroom centrepiece. With the odo reading 34,000 miles, it is worth an estimated £130,000-£150,000.
