Pair of modern classic Mercs head to auction

Published 17 April 2018

Two modern classic Mercs are going under the hammer. A CLK63 AMG Black and limited-edition CLK DTM are part of Silverstone Auctions’ sale on 19 May.

Harry Whale, Silverstone Auctions classic car specialist, said, ‘Both these prized modern-day classics are stripped-out racers at heart. Lighter and more powerful than their showroom cousins, these cars were built for the track.’

The 2005 CLK DTMs is one of just 40 right-hand drive examples. In total, 100 coupes were built to celebrate the CLK winning the German touring car championship (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters). Mercedes added track-inspired upgrades to the body, including flared wheelarches, larger air intakes and a boot-mounted rear wing. Power comes from a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 engine producing 582bhp.

This Obsidian Black model has clocked up 7580 miles in its 13 years in the hands of just two owners. It will be offered at auction with an estimate of £180,000 to £220,000 and comes with the DT55 AMG numberplate.

The 2008 CLK63 AMG 'Black' - one of only 25 right-hand drive examples - is a bit of a handful. Finished in Iridium Metallic Silver it has a 507bhp 6.2-litre V8 capable under the bonnet. It’s also covered in carbon fibre – like the rear spoiler and the air vents in the front wings.

Coming to auction from a private collection, it has covered 4000 miles since new and has been meticulously stored and serviced. It could fetch between £110,000 and £125,000.
