Evanta Aston Martin DBR1 for sale at auction
An Evanta Aston Martin DBR1 has been confirmed as part of Silverstone Auctions’ May sale. The car is a replica of the legendary DBR1 that was so successful on track in the 1950s in the hands of drivers like Sir Stirling Moss and Carroll Shelby.
The recreation was made by Evanta Motor Company, which at the time was owned by television presenter and car builder Ant Anstead, who is currently appearing alongside Mike Brewer in Wheeler Dealers.
The car, which is said to be owned by a celebrity petrolhead, could fetch between £85,000 and £100,000 when it goes under the hammer on 19 May.
Nick Whale, Silverstone Auctions managing director, said, ‘The Aston Martin DBR1 is an icon in British motor racing history, and this is one of the best replicas we’ve seen. This Evanta is a very special motorcar with unique provenance and offers exclusive and seriously cool summer motoring.’
The creation of the car was based on more than 150 photographs of an original Aston Martin DBR1 with special attention to recreating the correct Aston Martin Racing Green body.
Inside the cockpit, the car features the same handpainted crackle-finish dashboard, which took dozens of attempts to get right. The seats were also made in the same materials as the original cars, while the period correct dials and steering wheel were fitted to retain authenticity.
Under the bonnet the Evanta DBR1 is currently fitted with a high-compression 4.2-litre engine with De Dion rear suspension and coil over front wishbones at the front, with 16-inch wire wheels fitted with special period reproduction Michelin tyres.
