Restored Alfa Romeo Montreal set for NEC auction
A restored 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal is heading to auction later this month. The car, which has had £28k spent on it, will go under the hammer at the NEC Restoration Show over the weekend of 24-25 March.
The car was sold in 2013 by Silverstone Auctions for £20,470, but is now expected to fetch between £50,000 and £55,000 when it is sold by Classic Car Auctions later this month.
Sold to its first owner just three days after it was built on 14 October, 1972, by Alfa Romeo in Brussels, the car was imported into the UK in 1989 and has had four owners in its lifetime.
Originally finished in Luci del Bosco Metallizato, this Montreal has been upgraded with Bilstein shocks, four-pot front brake callipers, two radiator fans, and a stainless-steel exhaust.
It’s also had the fuel injection system removed and replaced with four carburettors as well as a respray in Alfa Rosso, finished with silver Campagnolo wheels.
Richard Greenhalgh, CCA classic car specialist, said, ‘The Montreal is rapidly becoming one of the most famous and desirable Italian sports cars of its decade, and this particular example is in stunning order, fresh from a £28,000 restoration completed in January.
‘It’s not unusual to see classics return to auction, but this particular transformation has been very successful, and collectors and fans of exotic Italian design won’t want to miss this opportunity to purchase one of the finest Montreals we’ve seen.’
Documents, invoices and a photographic record of the restoration are included in the car’s history file.

An absolute stunner! Such a gorgeous car, I'm not sure if the wheels are standard, but they suit it so much more than the multi-spoke wheels most other Montreal's seem to have. God, I wish had £60k spare.....Add a comment
