Judas Priest guitarist’s 911 Turbo for sale

Published 28 September 2017

A Porsche 911 Turbo SE owned by Judas Priest lead guitarist Glenn Tipton is going under the hammer. The car was the inpiration for the platinum-selling album Turbo as well as the single Turbo Lover.

Collected by Tipton from the Porsche factory during the heavy metal band’s European on tour in 1985, the 930 series 911 Turbo was specified with a Chiffon White colour scheme, and came with the special SE enhancements of vented rear wheelarches, sill extensions and leather interior.

Power came from Porsche’s 300bhp turbocharged air-cooled 3.3-litre engine. The car Tipton’s pride and joy for more than three decades - but a busy schedule means the guitarist didn’t get much time behind the wheel. In fact, the car has only covered 14,100 miles.

Tipton said, ‘We had a tour of the factory at Stuttgart and I was so impressed with the engineering and how meticulous they were when building cars, I had to have one.

‘But I live out in the sticks and it has to be nice weather to take the Porsche out, so I hardly ever use it. It’s time for it to go to someone who will get some use of it, but it’s going to be very hard to let it go,’ Tipton added.

The 911 has been meticulously maintained, and in preparation for the sale the car was sent to specialist Two Plus Two for a full service, new injectors and an MoT test.

An example of an iconic 1980s super car, the 911 Turbo SE is expected to fetch between £180,000 and £220,000 when it goes under the hammer on 21 October. For more information, visit silverstoneauctions.com.
