Ferrari F40 heads Salon Privé sale

Published 11 August 2017

A Ferrari F40 looks set to be the star lot at the Salon Prive sale next month. The low-mileage 1980s supercar will go under the hammer at the Blenheim Palace concours d’elegance on 2 September and could fetch between £875,000-£975,000.

The first supercar to break the 200mph barrier, the V8-engined F40 used carbon fibre extensively for its bodywork and chassis. As a result, it boasts a 0-60mph time of 3.8 seconds and proved a worthy poster car of its generation.

This one underwent a 300,000 euro restoration by Maranello-based Carrozzeria Zanasi, which works closely with the Ferrari factory, in 2016. After the work, Classiche certification was granted by the Ferrari factory. This F40 has been lightly used, covering fewer than a (verified) 3000km before the restoration and just 592km since. It was recently serviced in advance of the sale by Carrozzeria Zanasi.

‘All F40s are desirable and normally well presented, but very rarely a car such as this comes to market with the kind of fastidious attention to detail that will impress the most hardened enthusiast,’ says Harry Whale, operations manager at Silverstone Auctions. ‘It’s a remarkable car, and it’s certain to turn heads.’
