Delage set to shine at Brightwells Bicester sale
A 1930 ‘straight-eight’ Delage looks set to be the star of the show when auctioneers Brightwells return to Bicester Heritage later this month. The car could fetch up to £180,000 at the Flywheel auction on Saturday, 24 June.
The car, which was owned by Big Band Impresario Philip Cardew before the war, retains its original VdP tourer coachwork. The impressive four-litre, four-carburettor tourer has also starred in numerous films, including Tender is the Night, Brideshead Revisited and Fortunes of War.
Italian sports car fans will have their eyes on a Lamborghini Jalpa, which is estimated to fetch between £70,000 and £80,000. Only 410 were ever made, with just 35 of these in right hand drive. Replacing the Urraco and the Silhouette in 1981, the Jalpa was Lamborghini’s ‘junior’ offering. Power came from a quad-cam 3.5-litre V8 producing 255bhp, giving the car a 145mph top speed.

Lamborghini Jalpa is estimated to fetch £70,000-£80,000.
Other ‘more affordable’ Italian exotics include a 1995 Maserati Ghibli (£8000-£10,000), a 1942 Lancia Ardea (£10,000-£12,000) ‘baby Aprilia’ complete with pillar-less monocoque and typical Lancia sliding-pillars, and a 1975 Alfa Giulia Super (£14,000-£16,000).
