1934 Bentley special makes £142,400
Published 23 August 2016
A one-off Bentley has been sold for £142,400 by Historics auctions. The car went under the hammer at its Brooklands sale on Saturday, 20 August but didn’t’ sell until a few days later.
Based on a 1934 3½ Litre Bentley, restorer Ian Pitney took the existing chassis and mechanicals and added his own bodywork to the car. The result was this two-seat, open tourer with a Monza tail and ‘flying-wings’.
The cockpit was also relocated further back on the chassis to show off the bonnet, well-proportioned tail, and other details of the hand-beaten aluminium coachwork.
This additional sale takes the total number of lots sold to 124 of the 150. It also increases gross revenue to £2,822,624.
