1978 MV Agusta Magni 861 to Star in Historics 20th August Auction
A rare and hugely collectible 1978 MV Agusta Magni 861 is one of the star lots already consigned to Historics Classic and Collectors Auction at Brooklands Museum on 20th August.
The legendary Arturo Magni began racing for Gilera in 1947, joining the new MV Agusta race team in 1950. Under Magni, the MV Reparto Corsa team won 75 World championships and 3,000 races. After MV retired from racing, Magni and his sons set up a factory to build special versions of production motorcycles. This 1978 Magni 861 is based on an MV Agusta 750S America. Past owners include Nick Mason and Klass Zwart, who owns the private Ascari circuit near Ronda. Now fully resored and showing 35,011 kilometres the MV Agusta Magni 861 is estimated at £55,000 to £65,000.
A bit cheaper, this 1958 Jaguar XK150S FHC represents an affordable entry into XK ownership. The car was originally an export model but returned to the UK where it was converted to RHD and repairs to its bodywork were carried out. The four wheel disc braking system has also been overhauled with all discs replaced and the car has been re-wired with £4,000 recently spent. Spares, tools, jack and handbook are included. Note that the 3.4 litre engine is not the original. It is estimated at £36,000 to £44,000.
Another Jaguar, but this time a fine replica by Roger Williams Suffolk Sportscars of the 1936-1940 SS100, built on a 1968 XJ6 donor with 4.2 litre straight six. Unlike original SS100s that regularly sell for £300,000 plus, this excellent replica is estimated at £30,000 to £38,000.
This RHD 1959 Mercedes Benz 220S Ponton spend most of its life in the relatively dry climate of Victoria, Australia where it was retro-fitted with contemporary airconditioning. It was not shipped to the UK until 2015 so, while the paint bears a few imperfections, there is none of the usual rot. Happily, the interior woodwork has not de-laminated and the velour upholtery is in excellent condition. This fine car is estimated at a sensible £14,000 to £18,000.
Finally, also among the early lots to be consigned is this year 2000 Nissan Skyline R34 GTR V-Spec. It has a full service history both in Japan and by Torque GT in the UK, NISMO aero upgrade, 18-inch Volks alloy wheels, Ohlins coilover suspension. Happily the mechanics are standard with no performance upgrtades to worry about. It is estimated at £33,000 to £39,000, reflecting its fine condition.
Since August 20th is still more than 6 weeks way, many more cars will be consigned to the auction in the intervening period and, if you have a classic you are considering selling, now is the time to get in touch with Historics to make sure your car is properly catalogued.
As usual, spectator and bidder entry to the sale is by catalogue, priced at £30, that admits two. Viewing will be on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th August. The exact time the sale starts on 20th will depend on the total nymber of lots and will be advised closer to sale date.
