Impreza 22B STi makes £73k at auction

Published 31 May 2016

A 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi sold for £73,125 at Silverstone Auctions’ May sale. The Impreza, one of just 400 built, was supplied new to boxer Prince Naseem and had just 2500 miles on the clock when it went under the hammer on Friday, 20 May.

The Subaru wasn’t the only high-performance model to go across the block. Four of Lamborghini’s finest were for sale, including a rare and highly collectible 1983 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S, selling for £281,250. While a 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary edition sold for £241,875, and a 1988 Jalpa 3.5 Targa sold for £58,500.

Other Italian classics that caught the attention of buyers included a 1964 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider by Touring. This right-hand drive example had enjoyed extensive recommissioning by marque specialists and sold for a fantastic £82,688, more than £30,000 over its lower estimate.

Mercedes

1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL made £101,813.

And a rare 1962 Maserati Sebring Series I, thought to be one of only ten made, sold for £196,875, and a 1987 Ferraris Testarossa, beautifully maintained with just 12,425 miles from new, sold for £120,375.

There was strong demand for a 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL. Eight telephone bidders and plenty of interest from the floor drove the hammer price £30k over the car’s lower estimate to finish at £101,813.

Another Mercedes, a 1969 UK-supplied right-hand drive 280SL Pagoda, sold for £60,750, more than £15,000 over its lower estimate.
