Four VW T2 Microbuses sell for $85,800 to $110,000 at Barret-Jackson, Scottsdale on 30th January

On the 2nd last day of Barrett-Jackson’s spectacular classic and collectors auction at Scottsdale, Arizona on 30th January, four Volkswagen T2 ‘Samba’ roll-top Microbuses sold at from $85,800 to $110,000 inclusive.

The 1960 ’23 window’ with 1,500cc engine and featuring ultra-rare OEM parts including factory pressed bumpers made $85,800 inc. (Lot 1275)

It was preceded by a 1966 ’21 window’ nut and bolt restored by KAO Autostyling with roof mounted luggage rack, rebuilt 1,600cc dual port engine and ‘Freeway-Flyer’ transmission that sold for $86,900. (Lot 1276)

Top price was achieved by a beautifully rotisserie restored blue and white 1966 ’21 window’ with a rebuilt 1,600cc dual-port engine and ‘Freeway-Flyer’ 4 speed transmission that made $110,000 inc. Lot 1441)

Finally the 1956 ’23 window’ Deluxe Microbus in classic red and black with original 26HP engine sold for £99,000 inc. (Lot 1449.1)

The World record for a VW Type 2 Samba microbus was $200,000 achieved at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in January 2014.

(The difference between a 23 window and a 21 window is that the earlier 23 has two extra windows in the rear D pillars.)
