1961 Jaguar E-Type Late Entry in Historics Auction on Saturday
Published 27 November 2015
One of the first 1961 Jaguar E-Type 'flat floor' 3.8 litre coupes is a late entry in Historics auction at Mercedes Benz World, Brooklands on Saturday 28th November.
Offered at no reserve, the car, built in 1961 and first registered in 1962, was stripped, rebuilt and converted to a right hand drive car by the current owner who purchased it in California
Inspired by the docu-drama 'Across the Lake', about Sir Donald Campbell (played by Anthony Hopkins) in which Hopkins drives a blue 1961 Jaguar E-type FHC, the vendor restored this car to emulate Campbell's. After restoration, he drove it across America on Route 66 before shipping it back to his home in the UK where it has since been used and cared for.
It is not 'matching numbers'. The engine was replaced whilst in the USA with a like-for-like 3.8 litre unit which the vendor has since had overhauled along with the 'Moss' gearbox.
Offered with V5C, original bill of sale and every MoT test certificate since 2009, this Flat Floor is an opportunity to purchase an early E-Type with an interesting historty at a sensible price (guide £55,000-£65,000).
This E-Type joins a very varied consignment of 125 classic cars, from No Reserve to estimates of £1 million+, at Historics Grand Autumn Sale at Mercedes-Benz World, tomorrow, Saturday 28th, starting at 10.00. Full details from www.historics.co.uk
