£2m worth of classics sold at Anglia Car Auctions

Published 25 August 2015

Anglia Car Auctions continued its 2015 run of mega-sales as just shy of 300 cars came under the hammer on Saturday 22 August, resulting in around 75% of lots sold and a total of £2million.

Top price of the sale was the £152,250 including premium paid for a 2001 BMW Z8. The bright red Roadster, which has been sold new to the Middle East, had covered 55,000km from new and was one of just 77 available in that colour.

A 1957 Austin-Healey 100/6 that was part of a Danish collection made £49,350 and a 1962 Jaguar E-type Coupe was bought for £49,350, both with premium.

The 1980s performance models continue to strengthen in popularity with a 1987 Cosworth Sierra with 33,000 miles from new, owned by the vendor for ten years, made £30,450 and a 1983 XR4i with 45,000 miles on the clock and in unmodified original order was sold for £10,080.

Renault 5 Turbo 2

The hot-hatch theme continued with a 1984 Renault 5 Turbo 2 with its hot pink trim selling for £56,700 while a restored 1990 Renault 5 Turbo Raider sold for £9,660.

Other surprises included a restoration project 1933 Riley 9 Monaco Special that had been in one family’s ownership for 1954. Estimated at £7000-9000, it was hammered away for a healthy £23,100. A 1959 Austin-Healey ‘Frogeye’ Sprite project that had been stored for three decades made £2,730, the same sum buying a 1984 Bentley Mulsanne Turbo.

While the 1980 Rolls-Royce Carmague saw the hammer down at just over £32,000 with premiums, bargains included an MoTd 1986 Silver Spirit for £2,205 and a 1969 Silver Shadow that needed brake work at £1,900.

A typically strong ACA line-up saw a 1975 230.4 making £7,245 and a rarely-seen 300SD bought for £9450. Performance bargain of the sale was a 1999 E55, bought for £2,310.

This year has seen Anglia Car Auctions offer more lots with each sale, and it has sold more cars than any other UK classic auctioneer. Anglia Car Auctions’ next classic car sale takes place on Saturday 7th November. Entries are now invited. The full sale results can be viewed at www.angliacarauctions.co.uk.
