Two 1963 E-Type Roadsters in Historics 6th June Auction
1963 Jaguar E-Type S1 3.8 roadsters are rare enough, but Historics have two in their 6th June Auction at Brooklands, one LHD, one RHD.
The more original car in Opalescent Golden Sand is LHD, originally purchased in New York and left in storage for around 25 years after its clutch failed at 50,000 miles. It was rescued and re-imported to the UK in 2009, after which it underwent comprehensive recommissioning and has been used regularly since. Original features as well as the paint include Operating Maintenance and Service manual, original jack, hammer, original hood bag, even original body tags and factory crayon markings. It is estimated at £65,000 - £70,000.
The restored and upgraded red car was completely stripped, painted and rebuilt by Trevor Grooms, with a new braking system, rebuilt 3.31 Power-Lok diff, new clutch, fuel pump and fuel lines, rebuilt suspension, new seats and hood. Still all matching numbers, mileage is recorded as 80,806, estimate £78,000 - £80,000.
Top British car in the auction is a wonderful 1935 Lagonda M45 Rapide; a 100mph car even in 1935. This T7 bodied example was one of a collection of three Lagondas, and restoration was completed by the present owner who bought the car in 2002. A history file goes back to 1952. Estimate for the Lagonda is £165,000 - £185,000.
Star of Historics auction is this faboulous 1968 Iso Grifo 7.0 litre, styled by Giorgetto Guigiaro, one of only 90 7.0 litre Grifos ever built and the only one withn RHD. This was the actual 1968 Earls Court Motor Show car. The one owner for the past 28 years replaced the original Chevrolet 427ci V8 with a 454 that has been dyno trsted at 490HP. Power gets to the back wheels via a modern Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual transmission. This unique car (the only RHD Iso Grifo 7.0 in the World) is estimated at £240,000 - £280,000.
