Eighties icons lead the way at Goodwood sale
An ex-rally Audi Quattro sold for £287,100 at auction – proving that there is strong market demand for Eighties motoring icons.
The car, a 1985 Sport SWB Coupé model, went under the hammer at Bonhams inaugural Sale at the 73rd Goodwood Members’ Meeting on Sunday, 22 March.
But it wasn’t the only rally car for sale. The ex-works, Hannu Mikkola/Arne Hertz 1982 Audi Quattro A1 Group B Rally Car that won Mikkola the 1983 World Drivers’ Championship fetched £253,480.

And the ex-Pentti Airikkala, Roger Clark, Ari Vatanen, Björn Waldegård, David Sutton (Cars) Ltd, 1975 Ford Escort RS1800 Rally Car, sold for £85,500.
Rally weapons aside. a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Series IV sold for £256,860, a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage made £194,140, and a 1963 Porsche 356B Super 90 Coupé doubled its estimate, achieving £32,200.
James Knight, Bonhams International Motoring Director, said, ‘A noticeable demand for sports cars of the 1980s has been evident at our inaugural event.’
