Seasick Steve’s VW Camper makes nearly £30k at auction
A 1967 Volkswagen Splitscreen Camper that previously belonged to American blues singer-songwriter Seasick Steve sold for £29,500 at auction.
It was just one of several lots that went under the hammer at Coys Autosport Auction on Saturday, 10 January. Another famous car that attracted strong bidding was Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen’s 2000 Tatuus Formula Renault, which fetched £10,350. Raikkonen won seven out ten events in the Formula Renault UK championship with the car.
Other highlights included a 1991 Ferrari Testarossa that sold for £131,720, a 1989 F3000 Reynard for £35,000, a 1957 Land Rover for £33,630, a 1995 Bentley Azure Continental for £44,360, a 1973 Jensen Interceptor Series 3 for £20,060, a 1987 BMW M5 for £29,500, a 2014 Jaguar C Type for £62,280, a 1933 MG J2 for £35,400 and a 1970 Ford Transit for £11,212.
Chris Routledge, managing partner at Coys, said, ‘We also auctioned at Autosport seven cars from the hit television show For The Love Of Cars …you’ll see the results later on TV.’
Coys also held a sale at the Interclassics and Topmobiel show in Maastricht, the Netherlands. It was one of a kind with 100 American and European classics. The cars featured were coming from the Stasys Brundza Collection in Lithuania, one of Eastern Europe’s most significant private collections, which was offered for sale at no reserve.
This included one of the largest collections of Cadillacs ever to be put under the hammer, comprised of 35 cars, including a 1934 Cadillac V12 fleetwood Imperial Sedan, which sold for €30,000 (£23,115), a 1905 Cadillac Model C Touring that sold for €38,000 (£29,285), a 1912 Cadillac Torpedo for €46,000 (£35,450), a 1904 Cadillac Model B 4S for €41,000 (£31,597)and a 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville for €25,000 (£19,267).
Other classics sold included a 1968 Mercedes Pullman 600 for €165,000 (£127,181), a 1980 Gaz 113 Chaika for €43,000 (£35,178), a 1956 Gaz 12 for €85,000 (£65,585) and a 1983 Aston Martin Lagonda Tickford for €76,000 (£58,612).
