Records fall at Salon Prive sale

Published 08 September 2014

A rare 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder set a new record when it sold for £2.27m at the inaugural Salon Prive sale on Thursday, 4 September. The car – one of just 122 made – helped Silverstone Auctions rake in £9.9m in total sales at the Hampton Court event.

Ferrari’s featured heavily at the auction, with a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Series II Coupe fetching £707,215 – £330,000 over its lower estimate and another world record. A 1963 Ferrari 250 GT/L ‘Lusso’ fetched £1.89m.

But it wasn’t just Ferraris that did well – Porsche 911 prices were also strong at the sale. The hammer fell on a 1973 Porsche 911 S Targa (part of the Henry Pearman collated ‘Stradale’ Collection) at £195,500. That’s more than £80,000 above its bottom estimate.

And a 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback, which won ‘Most Elegant Design’ at last year’s concours, sold for £1m.

There was also strong demand for Aston Martins, with a 1970 DB6 MkII Volante selling for £954,500.
