1949 Talbot-Lago set to star at Historics auction

Published 24 February 2014

A 1949 Talbot Lago T26 Record Cabriolet will take centre stage at Historics' auction on 8 March at Brooklands, The car, which has been meticulously restored is estimated to sell for £120,000-150,000.

And it's a very special of a very special car, with matching numbers, and still in the same configuration as when it left the factory in 1949. However, the thorough restoration means that it's arguably better than new in some respects. It's been treated to a bare chassis strip and rebuild, and every original component was re-commissioned where necessary.

The engine and pre-selector gearbox too were stripped and fastidiously re-assembled, the same attention to detail being paid on all ancillaries including the instrumentation. The interior has been entirely recreated to original specification using finest quality leather supplied by former Rolls-Royce specialists. The bodywork was totally dismantled, the steel panels being repaired where necessary and the body re-skinned using the original panelling, the timber frame beneath having been replaced using the original as a pattern.

It's covered minimal mileage since restoration, and this Talbot Lago is presented with a host of documents and photograph that chart its restoration. It's registered in the UK, is taxed and carries a current MoT.

The Talbot Lago will be auctioned alongside 110 classics and automobilia at Historics at Brooklands’ Spring sale at Brooklands from 10.00am. For more information and the full lot list, visit www.historics.co.uk.
