Why isn't the water pump on my son's Audi Quattro covered under warranty?
I have previously raised this issue with you. The waterpump of my son's Audi Quattro failed causing subsequent damage and the extended warranty company have refused the claim stating that the unit had come to the end of its natural life. They requested the parts be sent to them for inspection, which was carried out with the exception of the pump itself as this was returned to Audi in part exchange for the new item. They were informed accordingly. Surely they can only come to their conclusion if the unit has a specified life in the form of mileage from the manufacturer?
In fact when the unit became defective the vehicle mileage was just under 80,000 miles, and it had a fully documented service history. I have contacted the CEO of Audi requesting technical support by supplying me with a statement that can be used in the Small Claims court. So far no reply. Is there any way this could be pursued with Audi as some statement from them could be critical?

These water pumps are notorious for failure and VAG recommends they be changed along with the timing belt, tensioner, tensioner bolt or stud and small pulleys at 60,000 miles. That's probably why the MBI took the view that it is a wearing part with a defined life and should have been replaced as a precaution. I don't think you'll get anywhere with this.
