Can I register my new car on my private plate?

I have a new car on order. When it arrives I would like the dealer to register it with a number (current number at the time) bought from DVLA containing my wife's initials. We did this before with an 06 registered car, is this still possible and how should I, or the dealer, go about arranging this?

If you have a private numberplate on retention it is possible to have this applied to your new vehicle. Your dealer should be able to do this for you, as they will be registering the vehicle in any case, so as long as you provide sufficient notice.

Failing that, you have the option to do this yourself, but you will have to wait until the vehicle is delivered on a normal registration before transferring it to your private plate. Either way you will need the V778 retention document for your private plate. You can read more about the process on the government website here: www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbe...n
