Massively practical
Comfortable, spacious, practical, simple. This car will be a tough act to follow.
Carries 4 adults plus copious baggage in comfort, rear seats fold flat for huge luggage space. 2.5 TDI has a load of torque at the right place for easy motorway driving. Controls are well laid out and the seats are very comfortable.
Mechanically durable: galvanized body and relatively simple mechanicals, this is the last of the simple diesels with computer controlled mechanical injection, not massively efficient, but running costs are offset by its relatively cheap insurance and low value. Keeping on top of maintenance isn't expensive, and the car will easily see 300,000 miles if you let it.
