Because of the strike of 500 workers at a Dunlop factory at Coventry, 1,200 men at the Morris Motors assembly plant at Cowley, Oxford, will be without work until Tuesday. The strikers, who are protesting against the dismissal of two shop stewards, decided yesterday to remain out. The stoppage also threatens the jobs of hundreds more at the Austin factory at Longbridge, Birmingham.
A BMC spokesman said there were no effects yet of a strike by 50 men in the petrol tank department at Morris Motors, radiators branch, Oxford. Six walked out after learning they were being transferred to the stores department but would not be paid under the "waiting time " agreement. The rest stopped work in support.
