Strike by car spares workers
7 April 1959
All 200 employees in the Standard Motor Company's spares department at the Maudslay Road factory, Coventry, went on strike this afternoon because of differences between shop stewards and the management over the employment of one of the workers in the section.
The shop stewards claimed that the man, a member of the Amalgamated Engineering Union, was in arrear with his union subscriptions. A spokesman for the firm denied this. It is not expected that the stoppage will have any effect on production.
