Electricians Strike At B.M.C. Factory

11 February 1959

An unofficial strike of 32 electricians at the British Motor Corporation factory of Morris Commercial Cars, Adderley Park, Birmingham, yesterday, resulted in about 120 men on the night shift being told not to report last night.

Neither company nor union officials would disclose what had caused the dispute. A Morris Motors official said at Oxford that the 32 men did not report for work yesterday, and although most of the other employees had been kept at work during the day maintenance work was gradually stopping. The official added that if the strikers were still out today about 400 other workers at the factory would have to be laid off, and the effects could spread to one or two other B.M.C. plants.
