Do I need a filler to repair my Nissan Micra's bodywork?

I need to repair some damaged paintwork on my Nissan Micra - a big chunk has fallen off. Do I buy a filler or should I be looking for something else?

If a "chunk" has fallen off then it must have been filled before, so you need to re-fill it.
