60 years ago not many working men owned a car. When they bought one it was chosen not for prestige but simply to get from A - B.

When introduced in 1964 the car cost about £1994. I can remember my grand parents buying a semi detached house in the early 1960's (before that they rented) which cost them about £800, less than 1/2 the price of the Vanden Plas. Today that same house would sell for about £120,000.

Neither of my grandfathers owned a car or even drove. My dad had a car but the wifes father never drove.

Its ridiculous to think that any working man in the 1960's would spend large sums of money on such a car, when they could afford a car they bought a Cortina and loved it.
