The best of the cheap and cheerful hatchbacks

90's and early 2000's hatchbacks are dirt cheap at the moment, £300 can get you a very decent daily run about; and for that money I am adamant that the K11 Micra is the best car you can get.
The twin cam engine is pretty gutsy in a 1 or 1.3 litre form and runs on fumes, the interior is well built, spacious, the boot is practical and the suspension although quite soft, is rugged and holds the car and any added weight very well.

In all honesty I treat my car appallingly; I go green laning through the peak district, load it to the brim for festivals, jump start other (less reliable) cars from it and I can also vouch that it does 55mph in second gear... Yet it has never ever let me down. These funny looking cars are really plucky, and if you do manage to break it, parts cost less than the postage.
