The Ford Motor Company is discussing a possible purchase of the Austin Rover division of BL P.L.C., a move that could raise Ford's market share in Britain to more than 40 percent, industry sources said. Spokesmen for Austin Rover and the Department of Trade and Industry said talks between Ford and Austin Rover were at a preliminary stage. The Government confirmed yesterday that BL and General Motors Corporation had been talking about the sale of BL's truck and Land Rover divisions.
