Triumph strike settled but 2700 workers laid off
30 October 1971
THE GUARDIAN
By GEOFFREY WHITELEY,
Northern Labour Correspondent
Labour troubles at the Triumph car plant at Coventry have led to production at the company's two plants on Merseyside being brought to a standstill. Although the Midlands dispute involving 37 toolroom workers is settled, disruption resulting from their strike, over an internal pay grievance, has caused progressive lay-offs this week.
By the end of night shifts early yesterday, production stopped at the two factories at Speke, and a total of 2,700 workers were idle. They will not report back for work until Tuesday when the effects of the Midlands dispute should have eased.
