For Leyland Read BMC
30 December 1968
DAILY MIRROR
By Patrick Mennem
The British Leyland 1.5 litre family saloon, scheduled to appear at long last in the spring, was designed by BMC. Since Sir Donald Stokes took over Standard-Triumph and later the British Motor Corporation, he has not been responsible for the design of any new vehicle.
At Standard-Triumph the Triumph 2000 and Spitfire were already on the stocks; so was the 2000 saloon of Rover and BMC had been deciding when to introduce the new 1.5 litre for more than a year. Sir Donald’s new amalgamated design office staff do have some very interesting projects in mind. But I doubt if we will be seeing any of them before the end of 1970.
