The DHF is starting a campaign to have the width of garage doors increased.

Regarding the recent email about problems caused by 7-foot garage entrance doors, the Door and Hardware Federation, which represents the makers of garage doors, is campaigning for house developers to increase the width of garage doors they specify. A recent survey has shown that up to three quarters of recently-built homes with garages have garage doors that are too small to truly accommodate today's cars. Now developers of new homes are being urged by the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) to review their current developments and increase the width of the garage doors.

The DHF, which represents manufacturers and installers of garage doors, says that developers still design and build new homes with 2,134 mm (7-foot) wide doors, which has been the standard width for the past 40 years. But cars have been getting wider, and many cars on the market today are simply too wide to fit through the doors. Garage doors need to be at least 2,286mm (7-foot 6-inches), according to the DHF.

That's excellent news. I hope readers, and subsequently developers, will respond positively to your campaign. http:/www.dhfonline.org.uk. If they email us of any developments where the garage doors are 7-foot 6-inches or wider, we will try to run a list.
