Why did a mechanic inflate my Fiesta's tyres to above the recommended pressure?
Having had three new 195/45R16 tyres fitted to my 1.6 diesel Fiesta I was interested to find that they had all been inflated to a pressure of 37PSI. The car handbook recommends 33 at the front and 26 at the rear. Is there a reason for the mechanic's choice?

Fuel economy. The higher the pressure the less rolling resistance. But the 1.6TDCI is far better on the 14-inch wheels with 175/65 R14 Michelin Energy tyres as fitted to the Econetic. The tyres on yours will feel like roller skates.
